Biography

Hannah Rose Stewart (b. 1994) is an artist from Newcastle, UK, based in Berlin, Germany. Her practice involves recreating and developing constructions on society, often as sculpture, new media, or live spatial installation. Stewart's upbringing during the 1990s and 2000s in the north of England is formative to her work. The artist draws on an anachronistic, yet deliberately self-referential symbolic architecture, wherein she leverages the modern experiences of the city to evoke a broader critique on the politics encompassing them. Her approach to art-making stems from research into hauntology, architecture, cybernetic and post-modern culture, as well as works from Mark Fisher and Franco Bifo Berardi, resulting in captivating and deeply allegorical presentations that impart a familiar, yet disconcerting impression. Stewart's works have been exhibited at Serpentine Pavilion, Turner Contemporary, Trauma Bar und Kino, Haus N, amongst other international galleries and project spaces.
